Description:

The course analyzes judgments of English courts related to civil law (law of contract) and criminal law, a judgment of the European Court of Human Rights, and issues of international law, focusing on the structure and characteristics of legal texts and legal terminology.

Cognitive Skills:

• To apply the knowledge of English law of contract and related terminology in the analysis of Carlyll v. Carbolic Smoke Ball Co.
• To apply the knowledge of English criminal law and terminology in the analysis of ECHR judgment (Tyrer v UK);
• To apply knowledge of international law and terminology in the analysis of The Rainbow Warrior;
• to apply the acquired reading strategies in analyzing English legal texts.

Practical and Generic Skills:

• present the acquired learning outcomes in class;
• write a well-structured seminar paper
• develop communication skills in English;
• take part in team work;
• apply the knowledge of legal terminology in spoken and written professional communication;
